American Legion Baseball is one of the premier youth activities sponsored by the American Legion. It teaches citizenship through organized recreation. Qualities such as loyalty, respect for the rules and decisions rendered, fair play, courage and physical fitness that are essential to the proper development of America's youth, are learned on the baseball diamond. The games and competition are simply not about winning. They provide opportunities for players to learn the value of teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship. Players and their families must also be committed to the team over the long and competitive summer schedule.
In 2006, Springfield Post 176 earned the 17th District title, its seventh championship in the last twelve years (06, 03, and 5 consecutive seasons from 1995 through 1999). In 1996 and 1998, Al Vaxmonsky took teams to the finals of the State Championships, where they were twice runner-up to the state champions.
The Baseball Program owes its success to the hard work and dedication of American Legion Posts and individual legionnaires who promote this activity. For more information about this program, including tax-deductible donations for the program, contact the Chairman.
Come out to the ballpark and enjoy a game, while supporting your Post team during the 2007 baseball season. The schedule follows:
